Harriet turned seven in January and we celebrated with a belated unicorn party last weekend. I must confess it’s not my favourite theme – unicorns pooping out rainbows and the like aren’t really my thing, but maybe I’m just boring! Nevertheless, a great time was had by all. I was pretty scared of making the requested unicorn cake. Whenever I’ve seen one, they always look resplendent in their simplicity, but I knew this was probably deceptive. I was, however, thrilled with the result after using this tutorial.
I enlisted the help of my eldest daughter, Portia (who spent a lot of the holidays perfecting her slime recipe) to make slime with each of the girls at the party. She used this recipe, which seems to work every time. The girls loved it! We glued some plastics unicorns to the top of jars for the girls to take home along with a party box made with this free printable. The party boxes contained a packet of unicorn tissues, a unicorn notebook with stickers and an oversized rainbow lollipop.
The party food consisted of freakshakes (very fun to make) with a free printable unicorn straw from here, strawberries dipped in candy melts with assorted sprinkles, unicorn horns (recipe here), unicorn poop cupcake cones (recipe here) and unicorn popcorn.
For decorations I used this tutorial to make glitter dipped balloons which hung above the table and scattered some oversized paper confetti along the table. I also glued some black cardboard unicorn eyes on an Ikea container to hold the flowers (which my husband gave me for Valentine’s Day a few days earlier). The girls spent their time eating, making slime, playing pass the parcel, hitting the piñata and playing outside. It was the most calm and peaceful party I’ve ever hosted at my house, maybe because it was a small party with all girls, or maybe because we had Pink Fluffy Unicorns Dancing on Rainbows by Andrew Huang on repeat for the entire party!
Time now to continue vacuuming up my house filled with sprinkles and sparkles! What about you? Do you like unicorns?
Wow, Sarah! I’m always amazed at your ability to pull off a party. You leave most of us mums in the dust. 😉 If Faith had wanted unicorns, I probably would have done everything to convince her otherwise. 🙂 Great work!
Thanks Hannah! x
