Happy Easter!

Easter’s been a little overshadowed this year by the coronavirus crisis, but there’s still so much to celebrate!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

Yesterday the girls and I had some fun doing some Easter craft. We tried out a few different things – the marbled eggs pictured above were the easiest and most successful, so if you’re short on time this link is a good one to try.

We also made these very cute little bunny vases which we will use on our Easter table tomorrow – a little more of a fiddle, but loads of fun to create. The link to make these is here.

Last, but not least we made some bunny milkshakes for afternoon tea after coming home from the beach – just saw the ears off with a sharp knife, add the milkshake, some whipped cream, sprinkles and a straw and you’re good to go. Simple and very appealing for kids!

Happy celebrating tomorrow as we celebrate the good news of the cross and our Saviour’s love for us. I’m taking a break for the next two weeks of school holidays – see you again soon x

Celebrating The Risen King

Why do you look for the living among the dead? Luke 24:5

I’ve been missing in action from my blog over the past few weeks, a few trips away and busyness keeping me from my usual posting schedule. I’ll update soon on a couple of things I’ve been up to. I’m happy to be back in time to share with you some of our celebrations for the risen King Jesus.

1E3B1416-C35F-4353-A9F6-217CFDC4DDBBEntertaining has to be one of my favourite activities, so it was fun to put together a table setting for a dinner to be shared with friends over the Easter weekend.  I love looking on Pinterest for ideas and found some inspiration here to make the cabbage vases and here for the free rabbit printable. A lot of Easter images from Pinterest are from the Northern Hemisphere based on Spring colours and themes, so sometimes it is a challenge to adapt them for our Autumnal Easter weather. I love this season with it’s hint of the coolness to come.

The cabbage vases were particularly fun to make and very economical, since cabbages are so inexpensive. The one on the right is made with the outer leaves of the cabbage wrapped around a glass jar, with flowers picked from our garden.

I like to incorporate some craft into our Easter celebrations if circumstances permit. I was a little short on time this year, but managed to dye some eggs with the kids using a purple cabbage natural dye from here. I was really happy with the way they turned out. I made the bunnies last year for each of my children using an old woollen blanket from the op shop, as well as one of my old woollen jumpers for the backing.

And of course, the kids love an Easter egg hunt with the anticipation and joy of finding that which is hidden.

I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. Isaiah 45:3

Stellar the Stealth Bunny

E640BF02-AEE1-4238-904E-0481C3A99CEAAs Easter’s not far away, I thought I’d post about our beautiful rabbit, Stellar (short for Interstellar, named by my son Atticus, pictured above). Stellar was given to us by some friends and came to join our family approximately one year ago. When she first joined us she lived in a cage and was regularly cuddled, mainly by Atticus, but also by the other kids too. Having spent my childhood seeing wild rabbits running free, I just couldn’t bring myself to keep her in the cage for too long.

Prior to Stellar arriving, we had another much loved bunny, called Pawprint who free ranged in our yard, after spending her earliest days in a cage. She was the perfect pet, much like a little dog in friendliness, but without all the work! We knew free ranging could also work for Stellar, but the complicating factor was that a very cheeky puppy called Popcorn had also joined our family in the meantime. So it was with some trepidation, that we let Stellar out of her cage to free range in the back yard and to contend with Popcorn.

So far so good! Popcorn hasn’t eaten Stellar and I have high hopes the two of them could become friends once Popcorn grows out of his crazy puppy ways. In the meantime, Stellar has developed some stealthy habits! She inhabits Pawprint’s old burrow under the cubby house and comes out in the early mornings to frolic and feed on the lawn, very carefully watched by Popcorn who hangs back near the house and trembles, hopefully with fear and not anticipation! We watch from afar, because if we go outside Popcorn gains confidence and chases Stellar back into her burrow!

All this begs the question, what do rabbits have to do with Easter? Well, not a lot, apart from their association with new life because of their prolific breeding habits! It’s not about rabbits, but it is all about new life.
